gnome environment; panels and icons

I have a couple questions about gnome panels and icons. Since my change
to Fedora on my laptop everything is going pretty well, but I'm
struggling with a few things. 

I'm trying to create some quick icons for getting to some things, namely
VNCViewer. I created a drop down panel and added some launchers, but
instead of seeing icons, I'd like to see the names of the launcher. Is
there way to do that?

I'm also trying to setup a launcher for ldapbrowser. I can open
ldapbrowser in a terminal window and run "Lbe.sh &" without a problem.
But when I run it from a launcher I get nothing. If I check "Run in
terminal" a quick window flashes and then goes away. Any suggestions on
troubleshooting that?
