Delay When Logging Out From Remote GDM Session

I'm running an FC3 system and have been struggling with a problem that I first ran into with an update to FC2 and which persists to date.

I have a small network that includes a Linux box and a variety of other computers, one of which runs Windows XP.  I typically administer the Linux box through the XP box running an XDMCP session.  The Linux box runs GDM.

The Linux box is my DNS server and DHCP server.  The DNS server is a simple caching name server that also administers a domain that I use internally and which provides reverse DNS for the relevant addresses.

This is a configuration that has worked reliably for many years, starting with old Redhat releases.

The problem that I have is that when I attempt to logout from the remote GDM session there is a long delay before the confirm window pops up and I can exit.  It feels to me like there is a reverse DNS problem.  However, I'm fairly certain that reverse DNS is working.  This logout problem does not show up when I log out from the console of the Linux box.

I'm not at all sure how to debug this thing and it's been bothering me for some time.  Your suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
