[Fedora] no entries in /var/log/* - FC3

Everything looks like your discribed and all files ar in the right 
places. And yes, everything is running by root :-)

Because everything is from the original FC3 rpms I#m that confused; a 
second server with nearly the same sysrem config (SMP, FC3,..) has no 
problem at all...
