ipw2200: Unable to load firmware

I installed kernel 2.6.10-1.770_FC3 in a Sony Vaio VGN S260.
If I boot with the wireless switch on, in the log messages I
find 

Mar  9 15:49:43 antoy kernel: ipw2200: ipw2200_boot.fw load failed
Mar  9 15:49:43 antoy kernel: ipw2200: Unable to load firmware: 0xFFFFFFFE
Mar  9 15:49:44 antoy kernel: ipw2200: failed to register network device
Mar  9 15:49:48 antoy kernel: ipw2200: probe of 0000:02:0b.0 failed with error -
If I boot with the switch off, the system dies when I turn the
switch on. No messages in the case.

The wireless card used to work in an older kernel.
