Yum problem I have not been able to overcome ...

Paul,

Please see my responses below (FYI, these were the first things I 
checked).  Also I do not that Google'ing this seems to encounter a lot 
of people who recently have come across this issue...

Nope.  The 2.6.5-1.358 is the only kernel rpm installed.
