I can state unequivocally, that Linux does not require a reboot for any
software packages except the kernel.  You can install, update, remove,
and ....   with anything you want on Linux and it is instantly available
without the need for the time consuming reboot.

What has just been said about the windows updates and the .net install
graphically display one of the things I hate about M$.  And don't forget
that at least 75% of all applications software packages installed also
require the reboot, not just the OS. (Microcoft Office, Quicken, Turbo
Tax, PhotoShop, many games, and the list goes on....)
