Linux disc utility program

I didn't see any ACPI option to turn it off, however I
should first know what is it ! My system is not a
laptop but it almost old. It is a PIII (933 Mhz) with
192 MB RAM. I think maybe it crashes because it needs
more memory from RAM ? Can it be ?
