cdrecord/k3b problem

Hi,
   I'm a linux newbie, and I'm having problem with burning CDs. When I 
try k3b as root I'm getting the following error message:

   /usr/bin/cdrecord: OPC failed.
   BURN-Free was never needed.

   I am running kernel 2.6.10-1.770_FC3 and I have applied all the 
updates including udev. I would appreciate any help or suggestions.
