I have the exact same problem on my Dell Inspiron 6000:
[root at mobile ~]# hdparm -d1 /dev/hdc
/dev/hdc:
setting using_dma to 1 (on)
HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Operation not permitted
using_dma = 0 (off)
This stinks, I can't watch DVDs on my laptop.
Here's my info...
