Yes, but do you also have the 82801FBM chip?

Execute "lspci -v -v".  Please look for the line like this: 

00:1f.2 IDE interface: Intel Corp. 82801FBM (ICH6M) SATA Controller (rev 03) (prog-if 80 [Master])

I could very well be wrong, but I think that is where the 
wheels come off the wagon.

I'm hoping someone with in-depth kernel knowledge will notice 
this thread and suggest a solution.  I suspect a kernel 
compilation can provide a work-around, but not the optimum 
solution.
