FTP help needed

Can someone point me to a good howto or page that describes how to set 
up FTP for a website? I just want to allow access to my website for 
purposes of updating webpages, etc, from a remote computer... All the 
links I'm getting hits to discuss how to set up a FTP site for file 
sharing - that's not what I need for now. Or, if the explanation is 
short, share it?
