mod_ssl apache problem

there isn't conf.d/ssl.conf under httpd. on either machine....

apache_1.3.33
mod_ssl-2.8.22-1.3.33
openssl-0.9.7e

the software is identical on both machines. freebsd has no problems with
the same apache configuration...
