Thunderbird 1.0.2 and grey background area in non-html-mails

I have a grey background in the preview text area and the compose
window. From what I can see this only affects non-html mails, i.e. html
mails display the colors set in edit->preferences->display (by the way,
just noted that the title bar when opening the preference window is
"Options", should that not be "Preferences" instead?)

The rpm changelog says:
* Wed Mar 23 2005 Christopher Aillon <caillon at redhat.com> 1.0.2-1.3.1

- Thunderbird 1.0.2
- Enable pango rendering

So, has this something to do with pango? Or linc (mentioned in
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=143060) Where to
find linc by the way? Can't seem to find it anywhere (updates and rawhide)

Anyone have an idea on how to get the white background back? Perhaps
editing the chrome/userContent.css file?
