Email notification with Thunderbird

Anyone know of a good email notification tool. When I'm at work I 
usually have several windows open in each of my virtual desktops and I 
often forget to go back to my email to see if I have new mail. I tried 
Korn, and it's pretty nice for the most part however there are issues 
with it consistently alerting m correctly. My main account pulls each 
minute and I do not save my mail on the mail server so once thhunderbird 
pulls the mail then korn says I have no new mail.

Any help or suggested software would be greatly appreciated...
