I agree with you that it's not that big a deal. However, if we have a
convention, I also don't think it's that big of a deal to try to
follow them, just for the sake of the community (even if just to avoid
a war like this...)

What do you mean by "vociferous minority"? In an open comminity such
as this one, everyone has a say. Look at the threads this dicussion
generated. Most of the answers prefer not to top post. I don't really
believe this is a minority. But anyway, one could always call a
poll...

That I agree completely. However, this isn't the only reason. There
have been extensive discussions on why we prefer bottom post / trim
instead of top posting. There's a ctually a logical reasoning about
it. Of course, none of that justifies bullying someone for not
following these rules once in a while.
