Oh no! You mean there are more than one modes for pppd? Sigh! This is what  
I love and hate about Linux. There are so many challenges. Everyday I  
learn something new, but everything is a major effort in reading alien  
concepts that I get dizzy sometimes. I'm seriously thinking of buying an  
ethernet adsl modem.
When you mentioned the PADO timeout problem. I googled it and found that  
people who have it get to the post where they tell the secret of how to  
fix it and the posts stop. I'm not technically minded enough to work it  
out for myself.

OK, I'll read up on pppd and see if that nets some insight.
