sendmail STARTTLS problem?

Hi:
I'm having some difficulty configuring my sendmail to use STARTTLS
with my Winblows Pegasus Mail client. I uninstalled and reinstalled
sendmail with yum so I would have a clean installation. I modified
the sendmail.mc file, uncommenting the define(`confCACERT_PATH,
define(`confCACERT, define(`confSERVER_CERT and
define(`confSERVER_KEY lines. The sendmail.pem file exists in
/usr/share/ssl/certs, I did not modify it. I enabled STARTTLS
connections on port 465. The rest of the file is unmodified. The
maillog shows no errors when restarting sendmail. When I connect
with my mail client however, no data is transferred and the socket
eventually times out. The following two lines then appear in
maillog.

I'm curious if anybody uses Pegasus Mail with STARTTLS to connect to
their Linux/sendmail boxes successfully and whether anybody
recognizes what is causing the above errors.
