Sony Vaio PCG-GRT996VP sound - another go

Hi folks.
I've got the above laptop running FC3+Errata and I thought I'd have
another go at getting sound working.
Kudzu (?) detected the sound h/w and configured it so that I get sound
out, but it's very stuttery. I've had a look round but can't see what
it's done to configure it. There's nothing in modules.conf for example
(but the modules seem to be loaded).
Below is what I've got so far. Anyone any ideas what to do next?
