FC3 hangs on reboot

The system which had been OK for several months now
hangs on rebooting after the following:

Loading ieee1394.ko module
Loading ohci1394.ko module

Loading ext3.ko module

Creating root device
Mounting root filesystem
EXT3-fs: INFO: recovery required on readonly

.... hangs here .......
