copying partitions

You could also perhaps use rsync from one machine to the other or from 
one partition to the other provided you have enough disk space.  I did 
this not too long ago when moving my home partition onto its own hard 
drive.  I then moved var to the previously used home partition.  If you 
use the -a parameter with rsync then it will preserve all ownership 
flags and permissions.
