Yes, but it has failed to manage this expectation properly :)

Internet mail simply is fast and robust, and this has led a lot of
users, especially business users, to expect it to be instantaneous and
dependable. Which it is, most of the time.

In my experience, delays of more than 30 minutes or so in business to
business email will certainly be felt at the service desk...
