True, but it does not avoid a restart of the X server, and X won't work
with the old driver if you reboot to the new kernel.
Almost a catch 22 unless you do the very simple recompile/reinstall
yourself when the kernel is updated.
I do a simple
update kernel - reboot to text & recompile driver - reboot to X
Takes less than 10 minutes total, including my time spent taking a
break, Getting a coke, talking to friends, then finally getting back to
complete the last reboot. Actually, more time is spent in waiting on
the ntp server for the 2 boots than in any other part of the process.
