I've got a number of 945 chipset machines (Desktop P4s *spit [My
workplace supplies them... awful machines]) Try replacing the "Driver",
in the "Device" section in your /etc/X11/xorg.conf to i810.

        Screen 0
        Identifier  "Videocard0"
        Driver      "i810"
