What is "+" on mouse cursor?

Sounds like what you would see if dragging something somewhere and
dropping would copy it.

Try pressing escape?

If not, Ctrl-Alt-F1 and login, then

ps -Af

and look for evil processes, eg, the calculator one, and kill it.

If all else fails, kill X from the text console, it should restart okay
without needing a reboot.
