Multiple IP with one nic

I'm keen on doing something similar, but I notice that there's several
apparent duplicates of these files:

  /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
  /etc/sysconfig/networking/devices/ifcfg-eth0
  /etc/sysconfig/networking/profiles/default/ifcfg-eth0

Should one be modified and the rest left alone?  Should they all be the
same as each other?

(Though in my case the file's named "ifcfg-lan" since it seemed to be
using that sort of naming scheme, instead of device naming.)
