grub ignores kernel choice?

Mogens,

Thanks! /boot/grub/grub.conf and /etc/grub.conf are not linked, and they 
are different! This is true on all my machines.

Any idea how this occurred?

I guess this should fix it:

rm /etc/grub.conf; ln -s  /boot/grub/grub.conf /etc/grub.conf
