Using ATI Radeon 7000

Hi,
I'm very new to Linux so please excuse my ignorance. I have a P4 3GHz 
system with an ATI Radeon 7000 graphics card and I'm running FC4. I 
installed the ATI Radeon drivers using

yum install ati-fglrx kernel-module-fglrx-$(uname -r)

However, when I run "glxgears" I see no acceleration. Could anyone tell 
me how I am to get my system to show 3D acceleration?
