Backup solutions?

But it affects dump more than other schemes.  The others have problems
with files that change, but they see the same file as the applications
regardless of whether it (and related metadata) has been flushed to
disk or not.

I think if you use dump, the right approach would be to use LVM and
make a snapshot first, then back up the snapshot.  Does anyone know
if this actually works?
