hard disk I/O error fixed only by hdparm -W0 - any clues?

I've got 3 seagates with 8MB caches, no problems here.
Maybe you could post more details, like the error messages, the output
of hdparm -i -I -v, and your system configuration. Of course this may be
difficult if you removed Fedora and installed XP.
