If nothing else, perform a "standard" installation and then install the 
kernel-smp rpm afterward.  It should "just work".  If it doesn't work, 
try posting a question on the Linux forums over at 
http://forums.2cpu.com/.  You'll need to provide some additional 
information like the motherboard manufacturer, maybe BIOS version, etc.  
Given that vintage board, it's hard to tell if there are BIOS issues or 
something else causing a problem.
