no sound after power failed

Are you by any chance using the digital sound output?  I have a similar 
experience when after xine crashed on a broken dvd, digital output is no 
longer available, except when using xine to read dvds in passtrhru mode.  I 
had to run a lead from my analog output jack to my decoder to have sound once 
again...
