installing ant, java won't run

Colt .45's are documented also.
There is a difference between knowing how to
shoot and knowing what (or whom) to shoot.

The mailings cited show two things:
1.  I was not the only victim.
2.  The other victims were also taken by surprise.
None of the other victims claimed to
have gotten things working again.

Doing things blindly was how I got into this mess.
I don't want to just copy an incantation.

 link currently points to /usr/share/java/libgcj-java-placeholder.sh
/usr/share/java/libgcj-java-placeholder.sh - priority 100
 slave rmiregistry: /usr/bin/grmiregistry
 slave rmiregistry.1.gz: /usr/share/man/man1/grmiregistry.1.gz
Current `best' version is /usr/share/java/libgcj-java-placeholder.sh.
