installing ant, java won't run

While I a bit understand your confusion, I do not really understand what
to tell you more than what I pointed out with the URLs.

If you read that part carefully you see how to switch to the j2re you
installed in parallel to the libgcj:

alternatives --config java

So switch to Sun's j2re and ant should be fine.
