Problems with USB external hard drive

I've been having some trouble recently with a 300 gig ATA hard drive
that I have in a ByteCC external enclosure that I got from NewEgg back
in July. It was working just fine until it would start to hang during
file I/O. I don't have this problems with Windows XP when I format it
with NTFS. I'm not sure if it's a problem with the hard drive itself or
a configuration error with Linux. I've searched Google on this and I"ve
not found anything conclusive at this point.

I'm currently running 2.6.13.4 on Fedora Core 4.

I get the following with lsusb:

Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0402:5621 ALi Corp. USB 2.0 Storage Device
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 2001:f103 D-Link Corp. [hex]
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000

I get this error message in /var/log/messages when the file I/O hangs:
