SSH key authentication

Dear all,

I need to make a sshd2 linux server accessible for a ssh1 linux client 
machine.
And I need to use key authentication in this access.

What should I do?
Where should I put the identity (private key) on the client?
Where should I put the public key on the server?

Please help!
