this wasn't painful at all - you had the i386 DVD - ubuntu has a lot of
wrong types too.

It is necessary to have the right boot image so you can boot the system
from a CD.

I thought that I gave you a link to a boot image that you already had on
your dvd that you could boot your Mac and then use the DVD for the rest
of it.

Of course, you can download the CD images if you like too.
