I think that one of the problems with internal LS120 drives is that they 
behave like a FDD but are installed like a HDD.  It may not be relevant, but 
it might spark some idea in someone.

Meanwhile, until you find some clues, do yourself a favour and stick an empty 
floppy in there ;-)
