random freezes

I had a similar experience early in FC5 because I had stupidly copied
the dot files from my saved FC4 home directory into my new FC5 home
directory.  I experienced random X freezes, but the machine remained
viable; I could login using ssh from another machine.  Rather than
pore through .gconf, .gconfd, .whatever trying to clean up the mess, I
just deleted and recreated my account with fresh dot files and haven't
had an X lockup since.
