Found it. The xorg-x11-server-Xorg package, with an internal build date of 15 March 2006 (as opposed to the package build date), was the problem. The changelog refers to "bug 187083" and contains the phrase, "causes crash on vt switch", pretty much an exact match to my problem. Sorry. It wasn't a Fedora Core problem. -- MM
