Will you recommend fedora to a newcomer?

Though, playing devil's advocate: How well do they cope with fixing a
Windows problem? Even something as simple as installing a printer
sometimes brings users to a hair-pulling situation, where the install
routine doesn't work, nor bears any resemblance to the guide that came
in the box.

Yes, some are worse than others. Good instructions can make a
three-line recipe for installing some of them quite painless to
implement.

Not a problem unique to Linux, though. I've seen plenty of Windows
users who've just got used to <something> crashing while they're using
it, or they just give up using it.
