Problems with corrupt packages

I finally got Core 5 installed but it took a while.
Maybe this will save someone else some time.

I started by downloading the 5 iso images and burning them to discs. Disks 2, 3, 4 and 5 failed the media check but I continued anyway. The install failed with a message about a corrupt package, 
xorg-x11-xtrans-devel-1.0.0-3.2.i386.rpm

This is on disk 4 so I downloaded disks 2 through 5 again, this time using gftp instead of going through Mozilla. I ran SHA1SUM on all iso images and they all matched.

For the rest of my install attempts I didn't bother burning the images to CD, instead I booted the machine with Disk 1 and selected the FTP option, pointing the machine to my RedHat 9 box where the images had been mounted to the file system,

I attempted the install several times and it always ended with corrupt package errors. Only two packages were ever mentioned
xorg-x11-xtrans-devel-1.0.0-3.2.i386.rpm (disk 4)
tux-3.2.18-4.2.1.i386.rpm (disk 2)

After much trial and error in selecting what to install I finally found a combination that worked. After finally getting the install to work then added additional packages.

One interesting thing that happened in my final, successful, attempt, is that the install program prompted me for all 5 disks. Even though I had specified FTP it still used the CDs. This makes no sense since earlier failed attempts, also using FTP, had failed on packages on disk 2 and disk 4 and I had not been prompted for the disks so I assume FTP worked for those attempts.
