I test, evaluate and write about quite a few Linux distributions
including the online support for quite a few years now. My
recommendation goes like this:

If you are ready and familiar how to use mailing lists etc., e.g. the
fedora-list Fedora Core 5 is the way to go. Since there is much!!!
faster response and more qualified as a rule from these forums. Also
about ten times more traffic going on there. To find additional packages
and updates works much easier around Fedora. A comprehensive site like this:

        http://stanton-finley.net/fedora_core_5_installation_notes.html

also helps a lot.

If you have trouble using or just accessing the internet (like low-band,
expensive connections), are not too familiar with English or hesitate to
make your need for information public in forums, OpenSUSE is the way to
go, provided someone lets you download the Gigabytes or copies the DVD
for you. In general you will get faster to a working installation.

At the end, the difference is merely marginal, you might as well flip a
coin ;-)
