The biggest problem with that is that you often can't find out which chipset 
is used on a particular piece of hardware until you have bought it and 
installed it.  More enlightened manufacturers do have decent spec sheets 
available on the Internet, but many don't, or at least make them very 
difficult to find.  Sadly, I think this situation has become worse lately, 
rather than better.
