Not that you are the one who said to do the above command Debbie, but
just wanted to correct something...

service sendmail restart is the ONLY thing that needs to be done when
configuring sendmail.  If you read through the init scripts, you'll see
make -C /etc/mail is already part of sendmail starting and takes care of
that for you.
