while using KDE, open up a terminal. Type
$ cd .gnome2
[user at localhost .gnome2]$ ls
you should see a session file. If you indeed see it,
do the following
[user at localhost .gnome2]$ cp session session.bak
[user at localhost .gnome2]$ rm session
[user at localhost .gnome2]$ exit
Try again. Also Jim gave you great advice to check
the file /var/log/Xorg.0.log. It should give you
detailed information about the session(s).
Regards,
Antonio
