It is probably part of a package group that you didn't install. Try:
# yum grouplist
to see all the groups, then decide which ones you want to install with:
# yum groupinstall group1 group2 etc
Also:
# yum groupinfo group1 group2 etc
For completeness:
# yum list \*emacs\*
Then pick the right one and install it:
# yum install packagename

The solution was to write: yum install emacs
