Latest kernel?  The driver is tied to the firmware, so if you are still 
using a driver version that requires firmware 2.4, having 3.0 won't help.

Also, there are later releases of the driver now than are in any FC 
kernel.  See http://www.ces.clemson.edu/linux/fc2-ipw2200.shtml for 
instructions on updating the driver in place.
