Gnome hangs

What do you mean with 'the systems hang' ? Can you still use a console
when pressing Ctrl-Alt-F1 for instance ? Or do you have to reset or
reboot your system ? If the system is still responsive, but Gnome isn't,
try to login as another user. If that works, you probably need to delete
all gnome related dirs and files in your home directory to get it
working again.
