It's a good point -- for example if you move to a motherboard with SATA
where the old one didn't have it you'll run into this problem.
There's a script called mkinitrd that can update your initrd to include
whatever modules you need, you can run this in rescue mode.
But you should try boot from your old discs first, unless you have an
unusual disc controller it should just work, and nothing is lost if it
doesn't.
