authentication indicator

I am using fc5_64 with gnome-panel 2.14.0
Recently I lost my 'authentication indicator': meaning the badge that 
popped up in my panel bar when I used a program that needed root
privileges. When you clicked on this badge you got two choices: keep or 
forget authorization. I upgraded to gnome-panel 2.14.3
but the problem still exists. The problem is 'annoying' because now I 
have to enter the root
password EVERY time.
